Keynote for Teachers

Elevate Classroom Success: Let's "Get Psyched" to Teach!

Current situation: You're working way more hours than you're supposed to, but you can't get ahead. Your students keep acting out, and you spend as much (or more?) time managing their behaviors as you do teaching. This has resulted in strained relationships with your students (and their parents). You're also still dealing with post-Covid learning losses, and your students seem to be falling farther behind despite how hard you're working. You're feeling the burn and starting to wonder if you should leave the teaching profession.

Picture this: You walk into your classroom and almost wonder if you're in the wrong place because your students are all sitting quietly and doing their work. And their answers are correct! After a few weeks of this, you realize that you're spending very little time on classroom management and much more time on teaching. Your students' academic achievement is also going up, and all of this feels so much less effortful on your part. Then, your students start telling you how much they enjoy being in your class, and you realize that you've also been looking forward to coming to work for the first time in a long time. The Farris Method can get you here!

This keynote presentation, designed for teachers, will describe how using evidence from the field of developmental psychology can make teachers' jobs easier and transform their classrooms into fun and productive learning environments. The talk will describe how the Farris Method - a fusion of psychological theories and evidence-based practices - can be used in classrooms from Pre-K through college.

Learning Objectives:

  • Teachers will be given a MAP for success via the three evidence-based pillars of The Farris Method: Mindset, Awareness, and Practice.

  • Teachers will shift their Mindset in regards to classroom management.

  • Teachers will gain an Awareness of the basic principles of Humanistic, Developmental, Behavioral, and Social Cognitive Psychology in regards to classroom management and instruction.

  • Teachers will be given a few tools to Practice their new mindset and awareness by applying them in the classroom.

  • Teachers will recognize that applying the MAP pillars (i.e., harnessing the power of psychology in the classroom) can be a game changer that transforms their classrooms and your careers.

Keynote for School Administrators

Unlocking Student Success: "Getting Psyched" to Create Thriving Schools

Current situation: You're managing a group of teachers who are so stressed out and exhausted that you start feeling that way too. Every day seems to bring new complaints or issues from your teachers, your students, or their parents. It feels like the whole culture of your school has become negative. You're putting in more hours than you used to, but you can't figure out how to get ahead or how to make your teachers happy. You know there's a teacher shortage and you're worried about losing many of your best and brightest teachers. You're also feeling pressure due to your students' declining test scores. To top it all off, their behavioral issues have you wondering if your school is still a safe place.

Picture this: You've been dreading the monthly faculty meeting because they've become increasingly full of complaints and negativity. You walk into this month's faculty meeting and start your agenda, waiting for the drama to start, but you quickly realize that you've made it through the first three points on the agenda with no issues. You pause to look up and notice that many of the teachers are smiling. You can't resist asking them what's going on - because this is such an unusual occurrence lately - and they tell you that their students have been behaving better and have been working harder. They tell you that the students' grades are improving. They report that the number of complaints from parents has gone down dramatically. They say that they've enjoyed coming to work lately, and they thank you for your leadership. Sounds too good to be true, right? Nope! The Farris Method can make this a reality for you and your school!
